Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS.

Chromium developers have just released three sample extensions for Google Chrome. The extensions are for testing purposes only. To run them, you will need to use a recent trunk build or the Chrome dev channel release, and then add --enable-extensions to your Chrome command line. The Chromium Daily Builds PPA has been keeping me up to date with the latest version of Chromium, the open source browser behind Google Chrome. Google recently released the first official Google Chrome for Linux beta. When I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10, I switched from Chromium to the Chrome beta.

It looks like Dell will join Acer and HP in offering netbooks based on Google's Chrome OS sometime this fall. Finally, Google released early developer versions of their highly regarded Chrome web browser for Linux and Mac. It means that you can now run Chrome natively on these two platforms but with insufficient features and software instability.

Days after a hacker broke open the inner multi-touch capabilities of Google's Nexus One, Google announced it is now offering pinch-to-zoom capability on the Android phone via a software update. In other Google news, the company has posted pictures of the Linux-based Chrome OS running on a tablet prototype.

This is something I have never heard of. I was trying to install Google Chrome in Ubuntu and in the download page a small note came into my notice. It goes something like this "Installing Google Chrome will add the Google repository so your system will automatically keep Google Chrome up to date".
