Tomboy does not fancy Gnote; Jo Shields keeps promoting Mono in Debian and Ubuntu

Your editor has long been a user of the Tomboy note-taking tool. Tomboy makes it easy to gather thoughts, organize them, and pull them up on demand; it is, beyond doubt, a useful productivity tool. But all is not perfect with Tomboy. Some people have complained about its faults for a while; Hubert Figuiere, instead, chose to do something about it in the form of the Gnote utility.

Response to disinformation about Gnote, a substitute to the Mono-encumbered Tomboy

As someone who writes for a living, I tend to take a lot of notes. For a while, used an application called Tomboy for that purpose. It was a nifty little app, but it ran a bit slowly for my tastes. I heard about Gnote, which is a rewrite of Tomboy in C++. Of course, I decided to give it a try.

A FAVOURITE project of ours, Gnote, has just achieved another major milestone/release, which constitutes a potential migration away from Novell's troublesome Mono. The new software is already being pushed for inclusion in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) and Debian GNU/Linux too.

After reading Sandy Armstrong’s latest post on the status of Tomboy, I became curious about GNote, and went to read about it on Hub’s blog. Personally I agree with Sandy, GNote is a project that ultimately hurts GNOME and the free desktop more than it helps

Fedora might get rid of Tomboy and have Gnote replace it
