KRunner is one of those KDE applications that people generally take for granted. Since it has the same shortcut key, Alt+F2, as Gnome’s Run Application terminal, those who have just started using KDE generally assume that it is just another version of Gnome’s Run Application terminal. However, it cannot be farther from the truth. In reality KRunner is one of KDE 4.3’s most useful application.

KRunner in 4.0.x was not meant to be a production interface. Just under the wire for the feature freeze, KDE team managed to get a new user interface that they've been working on for KDE 4.1. It provides a much nicer experience including more speed, solid stability, better usability, more configurability and fun eye candy.

Krunner operates independently of the Plasma desktop system as a standalone application. It includes a ton of features that make it useful beyond simple command launching.

KDE users get a nifty little app called KRunner that allows them to run all sorts of actions on a number of different resources available to the current user. Actions vary in a number of ways, allowing users to do things like launch applications, open web pages, play music, open documents, search for files, and so on.

Vincent Untz has announced the release of GNOME 2.27.5. This unstable release of GNOME in the road to GNOME 2.28.0 also marks the entering of the feature freeze for this bi-annual update to GNOME.

"Here it is, Wesnoth 1.3.14. But this version is not "only" 1.3.14, it is also the first beta release for the upcoming 1.4 stable series. This release is basically feature complete. For the next weeks, hmm, better say months, there will only be bugfixes, translation updates, maybe some graphics updates and many more bugfixes. KDE SC 4.5 is in feature freeze right now. Therefore, I decided to share some of early screenshots with you. In general there are no major changes. It is all about polishing and fixing bugs. There is a lot of under-hood changes in libraries which as enduser we cannot see. KDE SC will be released in August 2010. Now I will let you enjoy the screenshots.

The Feature Freeze is now in effect for Maverick. The focus from here until release is on fixing bugs and polishing.

Mozilla has confirmed that it has started culling features for version 4.0 of its open source Firefox web browser; the Account Manager feature - announced in April of this year - has now been dropped from the major browser update
