Today we'll be looking at SAM Linux 2007 test-1, a Linux distribution (also called a distro) from Germany. It is based on PCLinuxOS, featuring the Xfce4 window manager.
SAM Linux is a very ambitious undertaking, and one of those odd distros that falls somewhere in the middle of being a lightweight distro for slower machines, and a full-featured one for upscale computers.

PCLinuxOS 2007, also referred to as PCLOS, was released on May 21st, 2007 to rave reviews. Also, PCLOS has gained immense popularity having been the number two distribution over the last 6 months and number one since the release of the 2007 edition just over three weeks ago (according to the DistroWatch rankings). Ubuntu is sometimes thought of as the beginner's distro, something that more advanced users don't care about - they think if you're advanced, you need Slackware or something where you have to build it from scratch, rewrite or add parts to the kernel to make it more compatible to your system, write your own drivers, etc, but that just takes up time.

There's no dearth of Linux distributions for desktop users or even for running high availability servers. But if you are a do-it-yourself computer user, your choice of Linux distros is fairly limited. You can build Linux from scratch with Linux from Scratch or compile your own set of packages with Gentoo.

I am one of Linux enthusiast like you people, and have used almost all major Linux distros in past.Currently I triple boot Windows XP/Ubuntu Feisty /PCLinuxOS 2007.I am very impressed with PCLOS 2k7, even more than i was with Ubuntu. So i though why not write something which may help other people….

TinyMe is a live cd derivative of PCLOS that offers you the best of its parent, with the small size common to "lite" distributions or "distros" as they're more commonly called. One of the first things I discovered with this distribution is that anyone who tries out TinyMe and is a fan or user of PCLOS will likely feel right at home.

After much disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly, I had a functioning computer. The included hard drive was dead, so I swapped in another that I'd pre-installed Ubuntu to. That worked fine, but I thought that so long as I had a "test computer" at my disposal I'd use the opportunity to try out a few untried distros I had sitting around: OpenSUSE 10.3, Mepis 7.0 and Mandriva 2008.
