Joe Brockmeier argues in his article that positive campaigning is much more successful in reaching more people, than negative campaigning. He especially criticise the FSF for its "Defective by Design" and "Windows 7 sins" campaigns. I fully agree with Joe's point that it is important to do positive campaigning. This is especially true in Europe.

Desktop Linux market share had a growth of about 50% last year according to the recent data by NetMarketShare. If we look at the data for year 2010, there was no growth at all. However, in 2011, starting from 0.96% market share in February, desktop Linux market share ended at 1.41%.

[Windows7Sins] has received too a lot of negative criticism, thought, centered in an idea somewhat similar to the one I exposed in the beginning: “We must center on the good things free software can offer, instead of the enemy’s bad points”.

Since people wishfully read my previous posts criticising (part of) the GNU project as a wide-area attack on Free Software, I would like this time to post some positive thoughts on the greatness of Free Software altogether.

I've been sitting on this post, because I was hoping to put a more positive spin on the fact that even companies that adopt Linux for desktop computer users rarely if ever provide it to more than 20 percent of their users.
