The open source CMS Newscoop has been updated to version 4.0.2, which ensures compatibility with PHP 5.4 and improves the usability of major new features introduced in Newscoop 4. Sourcefabric have announced they are working an API for the CMS that will allow mobile app development.

Sourcefabric today announced the launch of Newscoop 4, an open source content management system for news, at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia. Developed and used by news organisations like Switzerland’s TagesWoche, ElPeriódico de Guatemala and Yemen Times, Newscoop 4 aims to help independent news organisations manage online publications, enrich content and find new audiences.

Building on the success of its first contest, the Linux Foundation has announced the launch of a second "We're Linux" video contest. The non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting Linux says that videos entered into the contest should demonstrate what Linux means to its users and should inspire others to try it.

OpenGameArt.org, the Free Software Foundation, and the Creative Commons are teaming up to bring the Liberated Pixel Cup, a free-as-in-freedom game making contest starting on June 1st and going through July 31st.

Architectural Web site Arch Daily points to a design competition at Open Source House for individuals or teams to create a eco-friendly sustainable single-family house for a specifically designated spot in Ghana. The contest, which runs until May 15, 2010, encourages designers to "think big" and come up with ways their initial designs can be implemented on a larger scale.

The world biggest Open Source contest, the Le Trophees Du Libre 2007, with over 60,000 Euro in prizes named the winners for each of the categories. The goal of the contest, which is sponsored by the Free SOftware Foundation, Cetril, the EU, IBM and numerous other sponsors, is to promote promising Free Open Source Software.
