X Server 1.4.1 was originally scheduled to be released on the first of November as a bug-fix release for X Server 1.4.0, which was released in conjunction with X.Org 7.3. However, a delay had pushed the planned X Server 1.4.1 release to November 11. When that date had come X Server 1.4.1 was far from being ready.

The ReactOS team has released version 0.3.7 of its Windows NT compatible operating system. This release along with the rest of the 0.3.x series is still considered alpha quality software.

The first release candidate of Mandriva Linux 2008, codenamed Copernic, is now available. The release notes are available here. The openSUSE Project recently announced the availability of openSUSE 11.1 Beta 1 for wide scale testing and bug squashing. This development release is available in x86, x86-64 and PPC architectures as a DVD disk image (liveCDs are not available for the current beta).

This is the ninth development release and first release candidate for GNOME 2.20.0, which will be released later this month. This release is the last before hard code freeze starts on september 10th. Please test this as much as you can and file bugs if you want them fixed before the final release.

The KDE team have announced the release of KDE 4.1. This is the first feature release after the initial KDE 4.0 release and is apparently designed to address many of the issues early adopters had with the 4.0 release.
