I started using Linux as my primary desktop and operating system in 1998. After brief flirtations with FVWM 95 and Enlightenment, I settle on Gnome (with it’s various WMs over the years ) and Redhat/Fedora (until switching to Ubuntu last fall ).

A little more than 2 years ago, I made a switch away from Mac OS X to Ubuntu Linux. Today, I want to revisit the article I wrote 2 years ago about 10 things I missed when switching from OS X to Ubuntu.

It’s new year’s for most of the world. Not only is it a new year, it’s a new decade full of promises for the computing world and the world at large. I hope you’ve enjoyed our foray into Ubuntu and Linux for the past few years. Here’s to many more!

Ubuntu has been a community favourite since it appeared less than three years ago, and it’s not hard to see why, with it’s combination of ease of installation and use, and the hardcore credentials of its Debian base. How does Ubuntu 7.04, aka ‘Feisty Fawn’, stack up against earlier versions?

RedHat is one of the most widely used Linux distribution, at least in the corporate and academic sectors. It's been around for years and after all the shit they've gotten from users trapped in RPM "dependency hell," you'd think they'd have learned SOMETHING by now, right?...Right?

I have been a big supporter of Ubuntu over the last few years and I have been using Ubuntu for many, many releases. I turned several friends onto Linux using Ubuntu and one of them has been quite excited about the operating system. Over the past year or so the Linux fan boys have been pushing eye candy on Ubuntu touting it as ahead of both Microsoft and Apple's desktop operating systems.

In one way or another, Ubuntu has been getting popular over the past how many years. I keep writing about it because it’s mainly the distro I use and it’s the one I am most familiar with. I might sound like an Ubuntu fangirl and in some ways, that is true.

My first experience with Linux was 8 years ago, a few years after my Dad bought me my first ever computer. The first Linux OS that I tried was RedHat Linux. At that time the Internet in this country was still at its infancy so I didn't know much about other Linux distributions (distro).

Fedora, and Redhat before it, has held a special place in my heart for years, being that Redhat Desktop was the very first Linux distribution I ever used, and the one I kept coming back to during my programming classes in college.
