Yesterday I’ve updated my Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy system to the new 8.04 Hardy Heron. The only problem I faced after the install was with the nVidia drivers.

I decided to install them by hand and here is the process in nine easy steps.

When I last checked Virtualbox did not update their repositories for Hardy Heron, its not a problem, their is a hardy package without a repository...So lets install the brand new virtualbox package for Hardy Heron...

Yesterday I decided to take the ultimate test of my badly mangled edgy Linux installation. Instead of the tried and true reformat and reload method I wanted to try the distribution upgrade that the automatic update kept on nagging me about. So jumping off of the deep end to see if I would sink or swim I just went ahead and gave permission to the upgrade tool to bump me up to feeling feisty.

If you've flirted with the idea of switching your desktop operating system to Linux but never took the leap, the time is now. This week's release of Hardy Heron, an Ubuntu release that will be supported until 2011, offers a freer, more productive space for work and play than ever before.

Which path should you follow? Should you take advantage of Ubuntu's package manager and use it to upgrade your system to the latest 8.04 Hardy Heron release, or should you download a CD or DVD ISO image and do a clean install?

The first alpha release of Ubuntu 8.04 (codenamed Hardy Heron) was scheduled to be released today, but the official release has been pushed back until tomorrow. However, a preliminary CD image of this first alpha release for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS has surfaced today on the Internet.

The much-awaited 8.04 version of the Ubuntu Desktop named ‘Hardy Heron’ was released yesterday. I downloaded the 699 MB ISO and managed to install it today. There have been really worthy improvements. We can only hope that this latest version brings a lot of users into the Linux World.
