The Southern California Linux Expo is proud to announce the second annual Demonstrating Open-Source Health Care Solutions (DOHCS). The event will be held on February 8, 2008 in Los Angeles, California in conjunction with the Sixth Annual Southern California Linux Expo.

If you have not already heard, SCALE, or the Southern California Linux Expo, is now underway. So far, the most interesting news comes from ZaReason, a manufacturer of many Linux-based computers and a reseller of Everex’s gPC and CloudBook, regarding gOS on the CloudBook. According to Click, the CloudBook will now run a version of gOS with GNOME, instead of Enlghtenment, showing that Everex is continuing to improve their software.

The Southern California Linux Expo has posted an interview with OpenMoko's Michael Shiloh, who will be at the event. "The Neo FreeRunner looks a lot like the earlier model, the Neo 1973, with some additions: we've added WiFi, a faster processor, more memory, a 2D/3D graphics accelerator, and a pair of accelerometers. The goal of our extensive testing, before we go into mass production, is to verify the hardware so that no changes will be necessary."

Hey, what is going on here? In Thursday's list of Amazon's best-selling portable computers, only seven out of the top 25 run Windows! As you might expect, Apple takes a lot of the spots, but it's not just MacBooks. The Linux-based Asus Eee PCs and Nokia tablets are grabbing high positions in the list. That's a lot of computers that aren't paying tribute to Microsoft.

With the popularity of Linux netbooks, 4 out of Amazon's top 10 bestseller list for notebooks now run some form of Linux. Another four run Windows XP, not Vista. The final two (which are 2nd and 10th) are MacBooks.

Apple gets a lot of grief for being a net pillager of open source. The company has adopted open-source software into critically important products, yet gives little in return (so the story goes). And yet the Mac gets a lot of love from the open-source crowd. Why? What has Apple done to deserve it?

According to a recent report conducted by the Linux Foundation, Red Hat has been recognised ahead of open source advocates IBM and Novell as the most active contributor to the ongoing development of the Linux Kernel.
