Right there in the middle of the article was the Microsoft ad you see below. Now, I normally block ads on my other Firefox installs, but this time I was running with 'naked' Firefox, and because nothing was blocked I got a surprising eyeful. A big fat anti-Linux Microsoft ad placed right in the middle of an article about Fedora 8. Wow. Incredible placement.

Canadian co. nails concept of public computing using Linux

There is a Canadian company that has really nailed the whole concept. Userful Corp. out of Calgary has a product called the Discover Station, a Linux-based computer that is designed from the ground up for public computing.

Asterisk speeds up call centre response

Achievement Awards Group, a South African motivational organisation, has implemented Asterisk to upgrade the capability of its specialist call centre and to react quickly to the needs of clients.

Asterisk is an open source VOIP (voice over IP) PBX used to drive telephony systems. The call centre solution was set up by the group's IT partner, Clarotech Consulting.

John Carmack not as interested in Linux (and OpenGL?)

A german publication has posted an interview with Todd Hollenshead, id Software's CEO, that reveals id Software and John Carmack are no longer as committed to Linux as they have been. Todd's words also imply that the Windows version of id Software's next game, Rage, will use Direct3D rather than OpenGL.
