This past Sunday we started our first-ever Linux Graphics Survey that looked at the usage of X.Org display drivers, hardware, and the display features being sought after by Linux desktop users. In less than four days, we received over 10,000 survey submissions!

The Standish group recently completed an extensive study that examines factors influencing open-source adoption. Based on five years of research and analysis, the report provides intriguing insights into open-source adoption levels and the way that open source is reshaping the software industry.

For the past month we had been running the 2007 Linux Graphics Survey at Phoronix where we polled users to find out what display hardware they use, what their driver choice(s) are, and their other preferences as it pertains to Linux desktop users on the visual front.

Results of a survey released this week, Windows Vista Adoption and Alternatives: A Survey of Technology Professional, found what many open source supporters had long suspected - Vista is driving more companies away from Microsoft than it is attracting.

We have previously voiced concern about the pipeline for VC funding based on the fact that while the first quarter of 2008 was the most successful quarter in history in terms of open source vendors raising venture capital funding, the percentage of disclosed Seed and Series A funding hit an all time low in the quarter.

Max McLaren sounds very satisified these days. But right now he has very good reason to be feeling a trifle smug - Red Hat recently released an extraordinary set of figures for the first US quarter.
