However, there is one model missing, company's giving away source code in order to generate good will. Any entrepreneur knows the incalculable value of good will.
I see this model used to increase adoption of common libraries in order to have the potential of selling more specialized libraries (JIDE Software); or, to increase awareness of other products and services (IBM). Open source software is almost used as part of a PR/Marketing strategy.
