Over the last few years, LinuxWorld has become the trade show for Linux, the business, rather than Linux, the community. This year, the show will include a blast from the past as it will include a massive install-fest.

This past week AMD raised the Linux graphics bar but the ball has now landed in NVIDIA's court. NVIDIA can either play ball by pushing forward with a similar effort, and then all of the big three GPU manufacturers would be cradling an open-source strategy, or they may find themselves in trouble down the road.

Thousands of the Linux faithful will converge on San Francisco's Moscone Center next week (Aug. 4-7) for the LinuxWorld conference and expo and the accompanying Next Generation Data Center show. Everything from cool hand-held devices to data center-class servers -- and the open-source software to run them -- will be on display and put through their paces on the show floor.

I'm a wee bit tired by patent FUD and other substitutes for real competition from Microsoft. Microsoft has built a great business on comparatively good products. Yet in its old age, it seems incapable of competing on customer value and instead keeps fetishing its patent portfolio, as if anyone but its lawyers care about those.

Microsoft is implementing four new interoperability principles and corresponding actions across its high-volume business products: (1) ensuring open connections; (2) promoting data portability; (3) enhancing support for industry standards; and (4) fostering more open engagement with customers and the industry, including open source communities.

This is a slide show that runs through the 15 most influential people of the FOSS business world according to eweek.com. There are brief bios given for each. No RMS though... I guess he doesn't count as influencing business or maybe it's because he isn't a businessman. Or maybe it's because it's "Open Source business influencers" not "free software business influencers".

I don’t really remeber when and where, but I have read once about that GIMP isn’t suitable to create pseudo 3D graphics. Nothing more fallible. I will try to show you that it’s wrong.
