The cost of upgrading to Windows Vista is forcing more organizations to evaluate alternatives including Apple Macs and Linux for the desktop.

Linux does support a lot of hardware. Probably more than Windows, certainly more than Apple. Greg K-H says people want Linux kernel source / binary compatibility for the driver support. What Linux doesn't do so great job of is supporting new hardware.

I've been using Windows since it was battling for desktop supremacy with GEM in the early 90s. In the mid 90s I spent several years producing newspapers on Apple Macs. Since the late 90s I've dabbled with Linux, but there have always been compelling reasons to return to, or stick with, Windows.
