If you would be willing to help a fellow techie out, I need a job. I realize that you guys are far-flung, all over the place (there was an argument that at least in part took place in what I think was Hungarian yesterday!), but if any of you know of a job that might be a good fit for a professional troubleshooter and technology expert such as myself that happens to be in the Central Minnesota area, or at least willing to let someone like me telecommute, please let me know.

My email address is Mr.Shifty@gmail.com.

Sad situation

Mate, I'm very sorry to hear of your unhappy situation. Try to keep moving before you slow down too much. I know from bands that if you stopped, you had to get going again as soon as possible, or else you'd start to slow down, so much, that it became harder to get started again.

Come on, you Open Source readers, this bloke knows his Free Software inside out. He's one of the good guys with all the right stuff!

Give him a break if you're looking for any sort of Free Software specialist!

Ever thought of coming to Ozz if things get too bad in the US?

Ozz

Not specifically Australia, because it sounds like you Ozzies have your own employment problems there. But we have been looking to other areas. Uruguay is one little country that seems promising, and has a fast-growing technology sector.

But I still need to find something a bit more local in the mean time. Thanks for the encouragement though, it's appreciated!

Filthy lucre

Yeah, you actually need to have money before you can go somewhere else to look for it.

I knew a bloke who went to Manaus and opened a hostel and did all right.

Venezuela could be all right, too, but wouldn't win you any friends in Washington. Then again, who gives a rat's rear about Washington after they got us in this mess in the first place.

Anybody up to writing good directory software?

Tue, 2007-02-20 11:17 — David Jonathan

Since the very beginning, directories (of any kind) have had a very central role in the internet. (I have recently grown fond of Free Web Directory. Even Slashdot can be considered a directory: a collection of great news and invaluable user-generated comments. As far as software is concerned, doing a quick search on Google about software directories will return the free (as in freedom) software directories like Savannah, SourceForge, Freshmeat and so on, followed by shareware and freeware sites such as FileBuzz, PCWin Download Center and All Freeware (great if you're looking for shareware and freeware, but definitely less comprehensive than their free-as-in-freedom counterparts).

Is better education the key to finding better software?

Sat, 2007-03-03 03:25 — Edward Russel

I read David Jonathon's article Anybody Up To Writing Good Directory Software? the other day, which got me thinking about software directories in general. As David mentioned, many of the software directories one finds when doing a quick google search are free as in beer, not as in freedom. But what interests me is the software directories that already exist, providing a combination of both free as in beer software, and open source software. Sites such as Freeware Downloads and Shareware Download don't advertise themselves as providing free as in liberty software, but each of them have a good selection of open source software available... if you know where to look.
