The idiot view

The main premise of the article stands, however:

I don't swallow the argument that Linux, or FOSS in general, is the work of Corporate America - it is true that many of the key developers are paid by corporates but, for the most part, they are paid on their own terms to do what they would be doing anyway - precisely because Linux or Samba or Apache have proved their own value to hardware companies such as IBM/HP - which had previously squandered billions on making proprietary Unix fail.

They can pay what they like but they don't own the software, at least not that software that has been released under the GPL.

Over involvement by corporate interests is something to be avoided, not applauded.
