Over at The Complete Geek my friend Jered posted a really nice howto on remote X11 forwarding the other day.

Like uses of Synergy, remote X can be extremely useful when you’re working with multiple machines, or even if you’re working with a virtual machine and need to run some of the applications on the host without constantly flipping windows back and forth.

At home, I have 2 machines, one running Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) and the other running Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy). The Hardy machine is used by my family members and I use Jaunty for my experiments. Some times, I would like to test some thing on Hardy also. But most of the times that machine is not free.

Lighttpd allows you to run php from different hosts. This is quite useful:

a] If you want to run php 4 locally and php 5 from remote host
b] Load balancing dynamic content
c] Added layer for security for chrooted jails etc

The hostname defaults to localhost. If you are logged in, you can verify that by typing hostname at a shell terminal, or clicking the Details module in System Settings, where the hostname should be listed in the Device name field.

Virtual desktops in Linux are great for remote working and for administering and supporting remote computers. A single server can host virtual desktops for several remote workers. This recipe is for Debian-based Linux distributions, including Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
