This week Linux Mint 9 Xfce was released featuring many of the features we looked at in my Linux Mint 9 KDE review and a few of its own. Linux Mint 9 Xfce includes the Linux Kernel 2.6.32, Xfce 4.6.1, Xorg 7.4 and is based on Ubuntu 10.04.

XFCE is a lightweight desktop environment. For Linux Mint 13, the was an XFCE edition in addition to the Cinnamon and Mate editions, but for Linux Mint 14, there isn't. This short guide explains how to install XFCE on your Linux Mint 14 desktop.

The Mint development team has announced the release of Linux Mint 7 XFCE, a Community Edition code named 'Gloria'. Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based distribution that aims to be user friendly and provide a more complete out-of-the-box experience by including support for DVD playback, Java, plug-ins and various media CODECs.

Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) is the branch of Linux Mint that is based on Debian, unlike Linux Mint editions which are based on Ubuntu Desktop. LMDE Xfce is the second Debian-based edition to be released. The first, Linux Mint Debian Edition, is powered by the GNOME desktop environment.

The very latest edition, Linux Mint Debian 201204, was released on April 24. Installation images for 32- and 64-bit platforms for the Xfce and MATE/Cinnamon desktop environments were released. The MATE/Cinnamon edition has already being reviewed. This article is a review of the Xfce edition,

Some people have slower computers and some folks simply have no need for all the desktop bells and whistles found in KDE or Gnome. If you're one of those folks then you might want to consider checking out the XFCE version of Linux Mint 7.

I must say Linux Mint seems to always impress me with every new release. In this release Linux Mint has brought to us a new software manager called MintInstall, which allows you to browse the Mint Software portal offline, see screenshots that are available per package, and much more.
