I've had this book for almost a month, but have waited to write this review until I could give it the attention it deserves. I'm a fan of The Official Ubuntu Book (now in it's 4th edition), so I eagerly approached Rankin and Hill's production, anticipating the same quality product the desktop Ubuntu book has consistently provided (and no, I didn't think the desktop book was "perfect").

Having trouble sorting out hundreds of e-Books? If the collection is too big, its really not friendlier to find a book by file name. We need something like Book Shelf to keep them in order, that is what e-Book Collection Managers are, but they are a lot flexible than our real life Book Shelves.

The task this book sets out to do is impossible and many who purchase the book will expect a great deal more. Everyone wants a one volume answer guide to the Ubuntu Desktop, it simply is not possible. The goal of the current book, is to provide “jumping-off point to get started.”

This book guides you to everything you will need to know to installing, maintaining and getting the best out of Lighttpd (or "Lighty" if you will). This piece of software is named correctly for its purpose, being a lightweight webserver. There are chapters about building Lighttpd, but even more interesting the book goes in depth about optimizing and securing the software.

I've been working on a book on Git being published by Apress called "Pro Git", which is being licensed under a CC 3.0 license and as I've just finished some of the final reviews, I've put the entire content of the book online...

This review has been a long time coming...mainly because I've been having such a good time with this book. That said, the title is a bit misleading. It's not really "The book that should have been in the box" (even if JavaScript came in a box) since a "box of generic JavaScript" wouldn't have come with half of what this book contains.
