Dreamlinux is a Debian-based distribution that offers you a choice of GNOME or Xfce window managers as well as an extremely simple installation and scripts to install popular programs not found in the Debian repositories. With included programs for communication, graphics, and music, plus OpenOffice.org, it covers most general desktop needs, and installation and configuration are a breeze.

This post lists the necessary libraries needed to either compile or run several applications on Debian Lenny. For the applications already included in the repositories (like Amarok, Wine, Banshee and so on) use this guide. Make sure to always try apt-get build-dep application_name first, then see if you really need some other dependencies.

So in part one we disabled unwanted or unneeded programs from starting up when we turn on our computer. However those programs are still installed and taking up space. This space could be better used for other things. Important things like music, movies, recipes or maybe even some work related stuff.

Last week, I covered how to use KGRUBEditor to re-order the boot menu you see at startup, so that dual boot users could move Windows to the top of the list if they would like.
